Ħamrun Ħanin raises awareness on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Ħamrun Ħanin has launched a campaign to raise awareness on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, observed worldwide on 25th November.

As part of the MatchDay taking place on the folowing weekend for the 360 Sports Malta Premier as well as the Challenge League and the Women’s League, team captains wore specially designed armbands to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, This is another initiative under the Sports Unity concept, a project of Ħamrun Ħanin.

Despite progress and increased awareness, one in three women worldwide experiences physical or sexual violence in their lifetime, and Sports Unity is bringing football clubs together to send a strong message that no further excuses are acceptable to eliminate violence on women once and for all.

Ħamrun Ħanin’s campaign, which is supported by GasanMamo Insurance, also featured strong social media video messages by a number of top women players, including Malta and Internazionale’s star Haley Bugeja, who called on fellow women to speak out and end the cycle of violence as well as men to call out such violence.

These armbands were then auctioned off to raise funds for Dar Merħba Bik an organisation dedicated to supporting women affected by domestic violence.

In a heartfelt extension of this initiative, the Veterans Malta Football Association have also presented a number of signed ands, making them even more unique and meaningful.
