Ħamrun Ħanin Presents Donation to Dar Merħba Bik as Campaign to End Violence Against Women ends

Ħamrun Ħanin has presented a EUR 1,000 donation to Dar Merħba Bik following the successful completion of its campaign to raise awareness about ending violence against women. This initiative, held as part of the international days to commemorate the cause, featured a variety of activities aimed at encouraging women to speak out and calling for an end to all forms of violence.

The campaign included powerful social media videos from top female football players, including Malta and Internationale FC star Haley Bugeja, as well as Brenda Borg and Maya Cachia, together with Dr Maria Azzopardi, who shared their messages of support, giving a strong message of courage and determination to all women out there.

In addition, members of Ħamrun Ħanin, the social arm of Ħamrun Spartans FC, visited Dar Merħba Bik, volunteering their time and services to support the important work done by the centre. As part of the initiative, a group of dedicated female staff at Dar Merħba Bik were invited, in collaboration with MPL, to attend a Premier League match from the Trophies Lounge, offering them a moment of relaxation and enjoyment.

In line with its ongoing commitment to support the cause, Ħamrun Ħanin also launched a fundraising effort under the Sports Unity project. Captains from the Premier League, Challenge League, Women’s League, and Veterans’ League signed their armbands, which were worn during the particular matchday to raise further awareness of the cause. These armbands were then auctioned to raise additional funds for Dar Merħba Bik.

This initiative has been made possible with the generous support of GasanMamo Insurance, whose partnership has been instrumental in bringing this important campaign to life.

Ian Debattista, Chairman of Ħamrun Ħanin, said: “We are proud to have been part of this campaign, and it has been incredibly heartening to see the solidarity shown by the football community and beyond. It is vital that we continue to amplify the message to end all violence against women”.

Frida Mangion, Head of Services at Dar Merħba Bik commented: “We are immensely grateful for the support of Ħamrun Ħanin, the volunteers, sponsors and the funds raised through this initiative. It is through the solidarity of the community that we can continue providing essential services”.
