Building friendships for a better future
The terrible tragedy which is unfolding Ukraine has stolen children of their safety, family, friends, home and even their hopes for their future. While the scars of a long-drawn war will take years to heal from the minds of tens of thousands of innocent childen, Ħamrun Ħanin sought to bring a few smiles at least for a few hours among the growing cohort of Ukrainian children in Malta.
Indeed, a sunny morning at the Victor Tedesco Stadiun in Ħamrun provided the perfect background for fun and laughter where close to a hundred local and Ukrainian children shared together a morning of activity and sport hosted by CSR Malta Association and Ħamrun Ħanin in collaboration with the Ħamrun Spartans FC Daikin School of Excellence and Ukrainian Refugees in Malta – a charitable organisation.
Nationalities and completely different languages were put aside as the children mingled and tried out different activities ranging from dart football to archery, from large-sized jenga to tug-of-war. This event was a true testament of how children find it so easy to integrate and welcome others which in our eyes are, perhaps wrongly, considered as different.
The young Maltese kids were more than happy to welcome and help their Ukrainian counterparts take part in the fun, aiding them so that at least for a few hours, to enjoy themselves and put aside their recent terrible experiences.
Reflecting the objectives of both CSR Malta Association and Ħamrun Ħanin, an educational and healthy twist to the event was also ensured, with the provision of books and fresh fruit to all children taking part, making this day one to truly remember.
